A day in the life...
A day in the life of someone who is self employed:
- Went to bed at 6:30 AM. I work SO much better at night time!
- Woke up at 11:30AM!
- Had a cold brew coffee with almond milk, silk dairy free creamer and a scoop of my chocolate protein collagen powder!
- Did a brief 15 minute morning meditation to center myself!
- Made myself look like the lady above! (Hard work guys, because me in the morning is IYKYK!)
- Drove about 45 minutes to the farmers market where I got some amazing fruits and veggies!
- Then went maybe 10 minutes down the road to my favorite bridge (again, IYKYK) to do some peaceful drawing!
- Took time to really breathe in the fresh air and reflect on how beautiful the day and how lucky I am to be following my dreams!
- I created some content while I was out and about!
- After the bridge, I drove home to answer some emails!
- I also posted some content on my instagram and FB! (Because content is required when you work from home, it's the unfortunate truth!)
- I touched up some older pieces to liven them up!
- I made dinner! Nothing super special tonight, no energy!
- Watered my flowers and veggies!
- And now I'm here, writing this!
Top asked questions:
Is money consistent? This is complex, but the simple answer is no. It depends on how hard I work, yes but it also depends on the internet and how people respond, how and when it gets seen and a cluster of other things!
Do you ever get bored? Again, complex! We're only human! Of COURSE we get bored! But I try to fill my time with work, content, wholesomeness, food, activity and adventure! Being a writer and budding illustrator has it's upsides and downsides! Some days I do less and some days I do more! Some days I have commissions and others I don't have anything to do but twiddle my thumbs!
Do you plan on ever getting a, "REAL" job? This is one that will get you sent you straight to snarky Shelby! This IS a real job! It produces a REAL income, I pay REAL taxes and though I don't clock in or out, I often find it's HARDER to be self employed because I have to be responsible for my own hours and time spent putting into my work as well as time I spend outside of work! I will straight up be on vacation and think to myself, "Oh this is great content, I should stop what I'm doing and put in some work." SO don't tell me this isn't a real job, some days, I never clock out!
How do you juggle your time? I spend as much time with family, friends and alone time as I need. I work from usually 9-10pm until 7 or 8 AM and then sleep for a few hours and then get up and start my daily routine! I am a, "night shifter" if you will. I can be a morning person if the occasion called for it, but I prefer to sleep in! I work typically anywhere from 7-10 hours a night, get my sleep on for a bit and then have the day to do whatever with whoever!
I hope that answered some of your questions, if there's something specific that you want to know, please don't hesitate to ask!
I hope you're having an amazing hump day!
XOXO
