Let's get our FOODIE on!
I am an absolute SUCKER for some good food! I’ve talked about it here before! My deep appreciation for the process! Where it comes from and how it’s grown! I made some of the most delicious food today and I feel it’s completely necessary to share!
We’re gonna be Cooking with Shelby today! Sort of, I was really excited to chow down and get the food done that I forgot to take a ton of pictures! š
What are we working with today? Jicama!
What is Jicama you ask?! According to Google:
“It’s flesh is juicy and crunchy, with a slightly sweet and nutty flavor. Some think it tastes like a cross between a potato and a pear. Others compare it to a water chestnut. Other names for Jicama include yam bean, Mexican potato, Mexican water chestnut and Chinese turnip.”
I can agree with a potato flavor and sweet like a pear or even an apple but when air fried in seasonings it has a definite, “Blooming onion” taste! DELICIOUS!
Here’s what I did!
Start a pot of boiling water! Add a pinch of salt! You’re going to boil these guys just like you would a potato!
Prep work: Peel the jicama and then be sure to rinse off the gritty skin residue! Then cut fry shaped slices close in size!
Next you’re going to drop the sticks into your boiling salt water and let them cook 12-16 minutes or until tender, not mushy!
Drain the jicma really well and then dump them into a bowl!
Add a few tablespoons of oil and seasonings of choice!
I added: Mrs. Dashes garlic, onion and southwest chipotle seasonings along with a dash of pepper!
Next you’re going to stir to coat! Then I dropped half the batch into my basket air fryer at 400 degrees for 30 minutes shaking the basket every 10 minutes so they didn’t stick to the bottom and to shift them!
You can also bake them in a single layer sheet pan, 400 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until desired crispiness is achieved!
Then I did my second batch when those we done and wham bam, thank you ma'am I had fries that were not only NOT bad for me, but they tasted AMAZING! I seriously love the Earth and the deliciousness that grows from it!
Here's the ending result! And DAMN were they DELICIOUS! Yeah, that's a healthy veggie... š
I will 10/10 be making these again! It totally took care of my fries craving!
You can’t go wrong with food that taste like junk food but isn't, in my very humble opinion!
Next up is a Hot Vanilla Matcha Latte! šµ
What is matcha?! Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves! Can be used in anything from tea, lattes, baking, cooking and more! It has health benefits such as promotes healthy tummy, weight loss and has skin benefits as well as many other things!
Here’s my process in pictures:
Powder whisked with hot water (frothed vanilla almond milk on the side!)
Added the whipped matcha into the rest of my hot water for a duller flavor!
Added in my frothed almond milk and added some almond and coconut vanilla creamer for some added creaminess!
At any rate, I hope that of you’re reading this you give one, if not both of these a try! Let me know down below if you do!
Here’s to a productive hump day, folks! It’s almost the weekend again!
XOXO
